El estilo masculino-femenino de Kate Beckett / Kate Beckett's male-female style

Este blog ha estado un tanto inactivo estos últimos meses, pero como siempre, estoy de vuelta otra vez. Hace aproximadamente un mes volví de Noruega, y ahora tengo tiempo de sobra para escribir y compartir con vosotros pequeños retazos del mundo de la moda, el vintage y... Bueno, cualquier cosa que pueda ser considerada como inspiración porque nos permita dar rienda suelta a nuestra imaginación y transportarnos a una nueva dimensión de arte y misterio.

He decidido empezar este nuevo período del blog con algo simple pero efectivo.Estos últimos meses he estado siguiendo la serie de TV 'Castle'. Para los que no la conozcáis, trata sobre un novelista de misterio llamado Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), que ayuda a la sombría pero preciosa Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) a resolver homicidios en la ciudad de Nueva York, a la vez que consigue inspiración para escribir sus novelas. Lo que me encanta de esta serie es su acertada mezcla de humor, drama y misterio. Los crímenes son increíblemente imaginativos, lo que hace que cada episodio sea emocionante en su propio estilo.
Sin embargo, este es un blog de moda, así que la razón principal por la que os hablo de esta serie es el sencillo pero acertado estilo de la Detective Beckett. Sus trajes de inspiración masculina y su interminable colección de abrigos y gabardinas, combinados con un cabello ondulado y un maquillaje sesentero pueden servir de interesante inspiración para esta próxima temporada.

This blog has been a little inactive these last months, but as always, I am back again. About a month ago I came back from Norway, and now I have plenty of time to write and share with you little pieces of the world of fashion, vintage and... Well, anything that can be considered as inspiration because it allows us to imagine and travel to a new dimension of art and mistery. 
I decided to start this blog's new period with something simple but effective. These last months I have been following the TV series 'Castle'. For the ones who do not know, it is about a mistery novelist called Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), who helps the shadowing but beautiful Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) to solve homicides in NYC, and at the same time, gets inspiration to write his novels. What I love about this show is its smart mixture of comedy, drama and mistery. The crimes are incredibly imaginative, so every episode is thrilling in its own way.
However, this blog is about fashion, so the main reason I am talking about this TV show is the simple, but wise style of the Detective Beckett. Her male-inspired suits and the unending collection of coats and trenches, combined with a wavy hairstyle and a 60's makeup can work as a very interesting inspiration for the upcoming season.

Una historia de la alfombra roja / A red carpet story

Hace unos días, usando la eminente nueva gala de los Oscar como buena excusa, una amiga mía me envió esta imagen, que representa una historia visual de los vestidos que han llevado las ganadoras del Oscar a Mejor Actriz. Un simple pero acertado dibujo representa cada uno de los vestidos de todas las ganadoras desde 1929 hasta 2013. De este modo, en vez de hacer el clásico ránking de las mejor vestidas del año, he decido buscar fotos reales de estos vestidos y comprobar cómo han cambiado las tendencias de la alfombra roja a lo largo de los años. Lujosos y elegantes vestidos durante la Época Dorada de Hollywood, pomposas faldas de los años 50 y 60 que podían sostenerse por sí mismas, capas y excentricidades varias para los 70 y los 80 contrarrestrando con la simplicidad que les seguiría durante los 90 y finalizando con la tendencia de inspiración princesa que ha reinado durante las últimas ediciones.
Debido a que algunas de las imágenes que encontré no tenían la calidad que esperaba (y también porque no me interesaba hacer un post interminable), decidí limitarme a escoger solo los vestidos que más llamaron mi atención. Disfrutad así de la historia de la alfombra roja, y dejad volar vuestra imaginación, preguntándoos que vestido llevarías si fueseis invitadas a la ceremonia más importante del Séptimo Arte.

Some days ago, using the eminent 2014's Oscar edition as a good excuse, a friend of mine sent me this picture, which represents a visual history of Oscars Best Actress winners' gowns. A simple but very representative sketch is made for all the winners' dresses since 1929 until 2013. Instead of doing the classic 'best dressed ranking', I decided to look for real pictures of some of these dresses and check how red carpet trends have changed over the years. Luxurious and elegant dresses during Hollywood's Golden Years, 50's pompous skirts that could hold themselves up, capes and eccentricities for the 70's and 80's contrasting with the following simplicity for the 90's and finishing with princess-like tendency that has reigned over the past editions. 
Due to the fact that some of the pictures that I found weren't as good as I expected (and also because I don't really want to do a non-ending post), I limited myself to choose only the dresses that drew my attention most. Enjoy the history of red carpet, and let your imagination fly a little bit, wondering which dress you would wear if you were invited to the most important Seventh Art's ceremony.

Los Goya 2014

Hace casi un año publiqué un post sobre la pasada edición de los Oscar, señalando lo insípidos que se me hicieron la mayoría de los vestidos. Sin embargo, creo que es la primera vez que hago un post sobre las mejores vestidas en los "Oscars españoles": los Goya. Me ha resultado bastante difícil elegir los mejores vestidos de esta edición, ya que ha dejado el listón muy alto, con grandes dosis de elegancia y originalidad al mismo tiempo. Las espaldas al descubierto y los vestidos dorados emulando al antiguo Hollywood han sido los protagonistas de una de las mejores alfombras rojas españolas de la historia.

It was almost a year ago when I made a post about the last Oscars edition, complaining about how insipid most dresses looked to me. However, I think this is the first time I write a 'ranking' post about the equivalent prizes in my country: the Goyas. It has been quite difficult to choose the best dresses of this edition, since it  has set very high standars, with great doses of elegance and originality at the same time. Sexy backs and golden, old-hollywood looks have been the main stars of one of the best red Spanish carpets ever.

El estilo independiente de Katharine Hepburn / The independent style of Katharine Hepburn

 

El fin de semana pasado estuve viendo otra vez "Historias de Filadelfia". Es una de las mejores comedias románticas de la historia, con un guión excelente que permite a Katharine Hepburn desplegar todo su talento como actriz. El vestuario ayuda a mantener una elegancia atemporal, con piezas clave como aquel magnífico vestido blanco con escote de lentejuelas doradas que Katharine lleva en la noche antes de la boda.

Después de ver la película, decidí hacer un post sobre el estilo transgresor de Katharine Hepburn. Ella era una mujer tan guapa como fuerte, totalmente alejada del prototipo de "clásico bombón hollywoodiense" tan de moda durante la época. Ella sabía mejor que nadie cómo destacar su esbelta figura con trajes de inspiración masculina y pantalones de tiro alto.

Aunque prefería ropas sencillas y cómodas que iban completamente en contra de las normas estéticas de una época en la que reinaba el glamour más clásico, pudimos verla llevando algunos preciosos vestidos de corte imperio por exigencias del guión. Hacia finales de los años 30 la atención comenzó a desviarse hacia los hombros y la espalda, con vestidos de noche de escote muy cerrado pero con la espalda al aire que le sentaban perfectamente a su figura.

Last weekend I watched "The Philadelphia Story" again. It's one of the best romantic comedy films I've ever seen, with an excellent script that allows Katharine Hepburn to show her incredible talent. Costume helps to keep a timeless elegance, with key pieces like that amazing white dress with golden paillettes at the neckline that Katherine wears the night before the wedding.

 After watching the film, I decided to do a post about the Katharine Hepburn's lawbreaker style. She was as gorgeous as strong, completely different to the archetype of the "Classic Hollywood Bombshell". She knew how to make her tall, slender body stand out with male inspired suits and high-waisted trousers.

 

Although she prefered casual clothes that went against convention in an era of classic glamour, we could she her wearing some beautiful empire line dresses according to script requirements. By the late 1930s emphasis was moving to the shoulders and the back, with high-necked but backless evening gowns that combined perfectly with her body type.

Normalmente hago un ránking de las mejor y peor vestidas de los Oscar, pero ésta ha sido una edición tan sosa que ni me apetece. Demasiados vestidos nude y looks tipo princesa. Independientemente de lo mucho que me guste combinar encajes y pedrería con colores pastel, este tipo de looks se han repetido una y otra vez durante los últimos años, y sería mi última opción si tuviese que ir a un evento como los Oscar. Es por eso por lo que escojo a Emmanuelle Riva, porque iba preciosa, elegante y original, a diferencia de sus competidoras más jóvenes.

 

Creo también que el vestido que llevó Naomi Watts es digno de mención, aunque su escote asimétrico no termine de convencerme. Prefiero el segundo, que llevó a la fiesta de después de los Oscar, por el dúo dorado y negro, aunque comprendo que para el día hubiese sido demasiado.

¿Qué opinas de estos looks? En tu opinión, ¿quién fue la actriz mejor vestida?

 

I usually make a ranking of Oscars best and worst dressed, but this has been such an insipid edition, so I don't feel like. Too many nude, princess-like dresses. No matter how much I like combine lace and strass with pastel colours, those looks have been repeated again and again during the last years, and it would be my last choice if I had to go to an event like the Oscars. That's why I choose Emmanuelle Riva, because she is beautiful, elegant and different, not like her younger competitors.

I also think Naomi Watts's dress is worthy of mention, although its asymmetrical neckline doesn't convince me. I prefer the second one, which she worn at Oscars after party, for the golden and black duo, but I understand it would have been 'too much'.

Cómo combinar un vestido (muy) vintage. / How to wear an extremely vintage dress.

Es una pena comprar un vestido vintage precioso y tener que dejarlo criando polvo en el armario por no saber cómo llevarlo. Por eso quiero compartir con vosotras algunas ideas que he ido aprendiendo los últimos años para  llevar la ropa vintage (a veces casi decimonónica) de un modo personal y actual, evitando el efecto "disfraz de época".
It's a shame to buy a gorgeous vintage dress and leave it in the closet for good just because we don't know how to style it. That's why I want to share some tips that I've learned in the last years, that maybe will help you to wear vintage in an original but also trendy way, avoiding the "period dress effect".

• Evita el total look: vestidos de los años 40 con ondas al agua y labios rojos, flecos y pedrería de los años 20 con turbantes, moños tirantes y guantes blancos junto a pomposos vestidos cincuenteros... Salvo en contadas ocasiones especiales, estas ideas son demasiado temáticas. Ante la duda, las joyas modernas, blazers y el pelo suelto con unas ondas naturales suelen funcionar muy bien con casi cualquier look.

• Avoid a total-look: 40's dresses with finger waves and red lips,  flapper fringe 20's outfits with a turban, very full 50's skirts with a tight bun and a pair of long gloves... Excepting some special occasions, those ideas are too costume-y. If you feel doubtful, contemporary jewels, natural wavy hair and blazers usually go with everything.

• Los vestidos extra-largos de encaje es mejor no aderezarlos demasiado, pues son prendas que llaman mucho la atención de por sí. Sandalias y bolsos bandolera dan un toque hippie muy agradable a estos vestidos. Si prefieres un look más sofisticado, una blazer, tacones y labios rojos son más que suficientes.

Si eres rubia, un vestido negro de encaje hará un contraste magnífico.
If you're blonde, a black lace long dress will make an amazing contrast on you.

•  Long lace dresses work better with minimal accesories, because they draw so much attention by themselves. Sandals and long handle bags give a nice hippie touch. If you want a more sophisticated look, a blazer, heels and red lips are more than enough.

• Los vestidos más sencillos se pueden llevar en su versión más natural, como hace Olivia Palermo, o con collares, fulares y el pelo suelto largo emulando al estilo bohemio de las gemelas Olsen.

• More simple dresses work in their most natural version, as Olivia Palermo wears them. You can also combine them with necklaces and natural wavy hair emulating Olsen twin's boho style.

Finalmente, quería mostraros también algunos outfits propios. El primer vestido fue un regalo de cumpleaños que en su momento me encantó, pero que apenas me pongo porque no combina con casi nada. Se me ocurrió probar con unas medias de encaje para darle un toque un poco más sexy y divertido. Además, tengo que llevarlo con tacones sí o sí, porque el largo midi no favorece nada con zapato plano.

 Finally, I have some own outfits to show you.  The first dress is a birthday present that I love but don't wear really often because it goes with almost nothing. I thought to pair it with these beautiful lace tights because they give a sexy touch to a formal look. I have to wear it with heels yes or yes because the midi lenght makes my legs much shorter.

Ésta es una de mis piezas más valoradas y que ya os he enseñado alguna vez, un precioso camisón vintage de L'Arca de L'Avia. Lo uso como vestido, combinado con una blazer muy básica marrón para el día a día. Pero como más me gusta es para un look de noche, con mi queridísima levita de encaje marroquí y este precioso bolsito de piel de cocodrilo de Lotta Vintage.

 These is one my favourite pieces, a beautiful vintage nightdress from L'Arca de L'Avia that makes me feel delicate and elegant. I combine it with heel sandals and basic camel blazer for day-to-day, but I prefer to wear it at night with my dear Moroccan lace levita and this little vintage bag.

 

Y ahora sí que me despido con un adelanto del próximo post, nada que ver con éste en el que este vestido será uno de los protagonistas.
