La moda de las tres Cs / The three Cs fashion

Los años 60 han estado muy de moda durante las últimas temporadas, y los 70 vienen muy de tendencia también. Sin embargo, este blog no solo sigue las tendencias, sino la moda en sí misma, y hoy prefiero prestar más atención a una década anterior: los años 50, los cuales fueron probablemente la última época dorada de la moda, con una increíble variedad de patrones y líneas que serían copiados una y otra vez durante años posteriores.
60s have been so in fashion during the last seasons, and 70s come very trendy too. However, this blog does not follow only trends but also fashion by itself, and today I prefer to pay more attention to a previous decade: 50s, which were maybe the latest golden period of fashion, with an incredible variety of patterns and lines that would be copied again and again throw later seasons.

La revista de moda americana McCall's, que gozó de una gran popularidad durante gran parte del siglo XX, alcanzó sus máximos picos de lectores durante los últimos años 50 y los 60 tempranos, convirtiéndose en un loable testigo de esta maravillosa época de la moda. Por ello, me gustaría compartir con vosotros algunos de los patrones y bocetos que fueron publicados por esta revista, alimentando así la necesidad de las mujeres de entonces de estar perfectas todo el día.
The american fashion magazine McCall's, which enjoyed a great popularity through much of the 20th century, reached its highest peaks of readership during latest 50s and early 60s, becoming a trustworthy witness of this marvelous fashion period. Because of this, I would like to share with you some of the sewing patterns and fashion sketches that were published by this magazine, feeding the need of 50s' women of being perfect all the day. 

Además de la clásica silueta de Dior, caracterizada por el largo midi, las faldas de vuelo y la cintura estrecha; otras líneas como las esbeltas faldas lápiz o los vestidos de noche en versión corta como primeras versiones del estilo cocktail, fueron también llevadas. Chaquetas entalladas decoradas con peplums, tacones stiletto, perlas, guantes y sombreros son también muy característicos de esta época, donde la moda era regulada por las tres Cs: código, comodidad y consumismo.
Besides the classic Dior's silhouette, characterized by midi length, full-skirt and small waist; some other lines, like slender pencil skirts or short gowns as the first cocktail dresses, were worn too. Fitted jackets decorated with peplums, stiletto heels, pearls, gloves and hats were also very characteristic from this period, where the fashion was regulated by three C's - code, conformity and consumerism.

Un comodín llamado terciopelo / A joker called velvet

Aunque hace todavía demasiado calor para pensar en llevar cualquier tipo de chaqueta o bota, no he podido evitar ir comprando algunas cosillas para la nueva temporada. Como muestra de ello, acabo de adquirir esta maravillosa americana de terciopelo en Massimo Dutti. Sencillamente me enamoré de su precioso color verde botella nada más verla... Ya os he enseñado alguna vez varios outfits con una americana color burdeos también de terciopelo. Ha sido uno de mis básicos más básicos durante mucho tiempo, pero este año empezó a lucir algo deteriorada, así que no se me ocurre mejor sustituto.
Although it is still too hot to think about wearing any kind of jackets or boots, I could not avoid to buy some new stuff for the new season. As an example, I have just got this amazing green velvet blazer from Massimo Dutti. I  just  fell in love with its gorgeous bottle green color from the very first time I saw it... I have already showed you some outfits with a bourdeaux blazer made of velvet too. It has been one of my most basic basics for a long time ago, but it started to look a little damaged this last year, so I cannot imagine a better substitute.

Lo que me encanta del terciopelo es que puede quedar bien tanto con outfits formales como con otros más casual. Si lo combinas con encajes y sedas, consigues un efecto decadente y bohemio, pero si eres partidaria de looks algo más pulidos puede funcionar también, combinándolo con piezas de inspiración masculina o directamente en un total look. Tan solo trata de evitar el "efecto circo", que llega cuando mezclas terciopelo con prendas estructuradas y/o de colores muy brillantes.
What I love about velvet is that it can work either for formal outfits or for more casual ones. If you combine it with lace and silk, you get a decadent and boho effect, but if you prefer to wear more polished outfits it can work too, combining it with male-inspired pieces or directly in a total look. Just try to avoid the "circus effect", which comes when adding velvet plus structured and/or brightly coloured clothes.

¿Y respecto a los colores? Personalmente prefiero los más oscuros, en negro, verde botella, marrón, burdeos... Las versiones más claras pueden funcionar también, pero normalmente los reflejos tan bonitos que produce el terciopelo son mucho más impactantes con colores oscuros, especialmente en los total look (echad un vistazo a la temporada O/I 2014 de Ralph Lauren, ya que sus propuestas, como el traje rojo que os sugiero, son auténticas maravillas).

What about the colors? Personally, I prefer the darkest ones, like black, bottle green, brown, burgundy... The lightest versions can work too, but usually the beautiful reflections that the velvet produces are more shocking with dark colors, specially in total looks (take a look to the Ralph Lauren's F/W 2012 season, since his proposals, like the the red suit I suggest you, are authentic marvels).

Hoy me gustaría compartir con vosotros algunos bocetos de Chanel de los años 50 y 60 que la tienda online de vintage de excelentísima calidad, Adored Vintage, publicó hace ya unos meses en su blog. Incluso si admitimos que hoy en día estos conjuntos podrían asociarse a una mujer elegante pero entrada en años, nadie puede negar el clásico savoir faire que emanan.
A pesar de que no me entusiasman especialmente las últimas colecciones de Lagerfeld, que se empeña en reinventar una y otra vez los iconos de Chanel (perlas y tweed, quién podría dudarlo); siempre depositaría mi confianza en estos trajes, ya que fueron creados por Coco para mujeres que buscaban un look práctico y estiloso al mismo tiempo.

Today I would like to share with you some vintage Chanel fashion sketches through the 50s and 60s that the excelent-quality vintage shop, Adored Vintage, published in its blog some months ago.Even if we admit that nowadays these outfits could be associated with an elegant but eld woman, nobody can deny the classical savoir faire that they emanate. 
Even though I do not feel specially enthusiastic about the Lagerfeld's latest collections, which try to reinvent again and again the iconic keys of Chanel (pearls and tweed, who could doubt it), I would always trust these suits, since they were created by Coco for women who wanted a look practical and stylish at the same time.

El estilo masculino-femenino de Kate Beckett / Kate Beckett's male-female style

Este blog ha estado un tanto inactivo estos últimos meses, pero como siempre, estoy de vuelta otra vez. Hace aproximadamente un mes volví de Noruega, y ahora tengo tiempo de sobra para escribir y compartir con vosotros pequeños retazos del mundo de la moda, el vintage y... Bueno, cualquier cosa que pueda ser considerada como inspiración porque nos permita dar rienda suelta a nuestra imaginación y transportarnos a una nueva dimensión de arte y misterio.

He decidido empezar este nuevo período del blog con algo simple pero efectivo.Estos últimos meses he estado siguiendo la serie de TV 'Castle'. Para los que no la conozcáis, trata sobre un novelista de misterio llamado Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), que ayuda a la sombría pero preciosa Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) a resolver homicidios en la ciudad de Nueva York, a la vez que consigue inspiración para escribir sus novelas. Lo que me encanta de esta serie es su acertada mezcla de humor, drama y misterio. Los crímenes son increíblemente imaginativos, lo que hace que cada episodio sea emocionante en su propio estilo.
Sin embargo, este es un blog de moda, así que la razón principal por la que os hablo de esta serie es el sencillo pero acertado estilo de la Detective Beckett. Sus trajes de inspiración masculina y su interminable colección de abrigos y gabardinas, combinados con un cabello ondulado y un maquillaje sesentero pueden servir de interesante inspiración para esta próxima temporada.

This blog has been a little inactive these last months, but as always, I am back again. About a month ago I came back from Norway, and now I have plenty of time to write and share with you little pieces of the world of fashion, vintage and... Well, anything that can be considered as inspiration because it allows us to imagine and travel to a new dimension of art and mistery. 
I decided to start this blog's new period with something simple but effective. These last months I have been following the TV series 'Castle'. For the ones who do not know, it is about a mistery novelist called Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), who helps the shadowing but beautiful Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) to solve homicides in NYC, and at the same time, gets inspiration to write his novels. What I love about this show is its smart mixture of comedy, drama and mistery. The crimes are incredibly imaginative, so every episode is thrilling in its own way.
However, this blog is about fashion, so the main reason I am talking about this TV show is the simple, but wise style of the Detective Beckett. Her male-inspired suits and the unending collection of coats and trenches, combined with a wavy hairstyle and a 60's makeup can work as a very interesting inspiration for the upcoming season.

I wanna wear bright black

Hace unos años solía llevar colores claros mucho más a menudo que ahora. También solía llevar el pelo rubio oscuro y cortado en algo parecido a un estilo bob, de modo que esos colores me favorecían mucho más que con el pelo largo y castaño que llevo ahora. He ido añadiendo muchos más colores a mi armario durante los últimos años (aunque sigo siendo un poquito alérgica a los más cantosos), pero por la noche siempre acabo vistiendo de negro. Sin embargo, los "total look" no acaban de convencerme; necesito añadir algunos toques de brillo para adaptar un LBD (Little Black Dress) a mi propio estilo y no verme tan sosa. Otra opción es mezclar texturas: gasas, terciopelo y cualquier tejido satinado funcionan especialmente bien en negro. He aquí algo de inspiración para hacer destacar vuestros looks en negro.
Some years ago I used to wear light colours much more often than now. I also used to wear a kind of bobby, dark blonde hair, so that colours fit me much better than with my current long and brown hair. I have added much more colours to my wardrobe during the last years (although I am still a little bit allergic to the brightest ones), but I always end up wearing black at nights. However, total looks do not work for me; I need to add some bright touches to adapt a LBD to my own style and do not see myself too insipid. Another option is mixing different textures: chiffon, velvet and any satiny clothe work especially well in black. Here you have some inspiration to make your black looks pop up.

Winter outfits

Por fin ha llegado una nevada de verdad a Trondheim. Ha estado nevando durante más de 3 horas seguidas, y ahora todo aparece cubierto por un precioso manto de color blanco. Me encanta la nieve, pero quizás sea porque no estoy acostumbrada a ella, y mi armario tampoco lo está. Aquí he empezado a llevar abrigos de plumas, botas y demás parafernalia invernal. Al principio me sentía extraña llevando esas cosas, en España no hace tanto frío así que puedo permitirme elegir entre otras opciones que me sientan bastante mejor. Pero aquí en Noruega no me queda otra que ser más práctica. Esa es la razón por la que he estado visitando mis blogs favoritos y seleccionando algunas fotos de los outfits más invernales que he visto, todos ellos tan elegantes como calentitos.
Finally the first real snow came to Trondheim. It has been snowing for more than 3 hours, and now everything is covered by a beautiful white blanket. I love snow, but that is maybe beacuse I am not used to it, and my closet is not either. Here I have started to use feather filled coats, boots and all that winter staff. At first I felt strange with that on me, Spain is not so cold so I can choose some other options that fit me quite better. But here in Norway I must be more practical. This is the reason why I have been visiting my favourite blogs and collecting some pictures of winter outfits, all of them as elegant as warm.
